Overview
Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is a popular destination for travelers seeking a mix of wildlife and less tourists. The park is home to large elephant herds, open plains, and the impressive Baobab tress. Visitors can walk within the park with a ranger from their property. The park's name comes from the Taragire River, which supplies fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the dry season. The ecosystem is characterized by the long-distance migration of wildebeest and zebras.
Tarangire National Park is a popular safari destination due to its high concentration of wildlife, including elephant herds, eland, giraffes, lions, buffalo, cheetahs, leopards, and zebras. With around 250,000 animals entering the park during the dry season, visitors can easily spot these majestic creatures.
Tarangire is a bimodal park with short rains from November to December, long rains from March to May, and a dry season from June to October and January to February. It is situated at an altitude of 900m to 1250m and receives an average annual rainfall of 650 to 700mm. Access is via road or air.
