AFRICA SAFARIS MADE FOR YOU

Overview

5 Days Tanzania Budget Safari Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire

This is a 5-day private camping tour accompanied by a guide/driver and the chef. This budget tour is a camping bestseller. It takes you around the famous north circuit parks. The Ngorongoro Crater is the highlighted park with its beautiful landscapes and surreal view of the crater and it is easier to see animals as it is a crater floor. The Tarangire is like a smaller Serengeti but famous for the many numbers of elephants. This tour gives you adequate time in the parks.

Day 2

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am and after being familiar with the guide, chef and other clients, we will drive to Tarangire National Park (2 hours drive) famous for its diverse landscape. The park is particularly known for the abundance of ancient baobab trees and having the largest concentration of elephants in the whole country. It provides unique chances to observe the interactions between elephant families. We will do a game drive through the park depending on where they are reported sightings of animals (mostly predators, lions, cheetah and leopards as they are harder to spot) as herbivores (giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, etc. are plenty to see through the park). Later on, we will go to the Tarangire River picnic site and enjoy the beautiful view of the river and animals while having lunch. Small monkeys and baboons will try to scare you off your lunch but there is nothing to worry about. After lunch, proceed with the game drive and exit the park at around 4:30 pm.

Day 3

Serengeti Plains

Be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement). The balloon floats silently above the awakening bush while you spot wildlife and enjoy the fantastic scenery of Africa and across rivers. We will take an after-breakfast game viewing drive along the Seronera River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River and is suitable for possible sightings of lions, Thomson gazelles, topi, ostriches, and cheetahs. We will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the center in the shade of the giant acacia trees. In the afternoon, we will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes and usually attracts several lions and some formidably giant cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops scattered around the plains, most are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!

Day 4

Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we will do a half-day game drive into the Serengeti and then depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will stop at Olduvai Gorge, which boasts a history dating back to the dawn. It was here that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of the ’Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man,’ both significant links in human evolution. We arrive at the camp in time for sunset and spend the evening leisurely. Driving Distance: 145 / km (2 hrs)

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we descend at 6:00 AM into this magnificent crater for a full-day game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the world’s most densely crowded African wildlife areas and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals, including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a wide variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque is its vast population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor.

Day 6

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we depart for the Tarangire National Park. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation primarily consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. During Tanzania’s dry season, the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals. The Tarangire is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. This African National Park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, and a few Ashy Starlings. After a picnic lunch, we do an afternoon game drive. Driving Distance: 45 / km (30 mins)
